Getting Started with Spark
A quick guide to setting up Spark, adding your contacts, and making your first call in under five minutes.
Getting started with Spark takes just a few minutes. Whether you’re switching from another messaging app or setting up your first team communication tool, this guide walks you through everything you need to know.
Download and Install
Spark is available on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and the web. Head to your platform’s app store or visit our download page to get started. The app is lightweight and installs in seconds.
Once installed, open Spark and create your account with your email address or phone number. We’ll send a verification code to confirm your identity.
Set Up Your Profile
Your profile is how people recognize you on Spark. Add a photo, set your display name, and write a short status message. You can update these anytime from Settings.
Pro tip: Choose a clear, recognizable photo so your contacts can easily find you when they search.
Add Your Contacts
Spark makes it easy to find people you know. You can:
- Sync your contacts to automatically find friends already on Spark
- Share your invite link to bring new people to the platform
- Search by username to add specific people directly
Your contacts are stored locally and encrypted. We never share your contact list with third parties.
Send Your First Message
Tap any contact to open a conversation. Spark supports:
- Rich text formatting with bold, italic, and code blocks
- Photo, video, and file sharing
- Voice messages with one tap
- Reactions and threaded replies
Messages are end-to-end encrypted by default, so only you and your recipient can read them.
Make Your First Call
Tap the phone or video icon at the top of any conversation to start a call. Spark handles the connection automatically, selecting the best codec for your network conditions.
“The call quality on Spark is better than any other app I’ve used. It’s like being in the same room.” — Maya, Product Designer
Create a Group
Groups are perfect for teams, friend circles, or project collaborations. Tap the new chat button and select “New Group.” Add members, choose a name and photo, and you’re ready to go.
Group features include:
- Threaded conversations to keep topics organized
- Shared files and media gallery
- Voice and video calls with up to 50 participants
- Admin controls for managing members and permissions
